What interior doors are better to install in a wooden house: tips for choosing and installation steps

Doors are an important component of any building. The entrance structure restricts access to the house, and interior doors are necessary for soundproofing individual rooms. The decorative function plays an important role, since beautifully finished doors complement the design of the house and help to create a holistic architectural ensemble.

Interior doors in a wooden house must be installed taking into account the shrinkage of the structure of the structure. All wooden materials (glued beams, rounded logs, boards and boards) shrink over time. The durability of the interior doors depends on the correct choice and compliance with the installation requirements.

Features of wooden houses

Installation of metal entrance and interior doors in a wooden house is more complicated than the installation of products in a concrete or brick building. Wood is susceptible to natural factors, decays, is afraid of moisture and fire. Therefore, the tree around the perimeter of the doorway weakens over time, which can lead to distortions and deformation of the door leaves, weakening of fasteners.

Before installing interior doors in a wooden house, you need to consider several important factors:

  • Strength.Wooden houses look massive and impressive, but over the years the wood partially loses its strength characteristics.
  • Shrinkage. After the house is erected, the mass of timber exerts a strong load on the foundation, and within five years the house shrinks.
  • Installation. In the process of installing doors, openings in a wooden house can weaken or split - you need to carefully perform the installation.
  • Operation.Wood gradually loses its performance characteristics under the influence of external factors.

In the first year after the construction of the house, experts do not recommend installing doors and windows until the intensive process of shrinkage is completed. The deformation of the building frame has a direct impact on the geometry of the doorway.

Choice of interior doors

Interior doors serve to delimit the space in the house and prevent strangers from entering the rooms sounds.Products must be wear-resistant, strong, durable. In addition to interior doors in a wooden house, you need to install balcony and attic doors.

Interior doors of different designs with different operational characteristics are installed in a wooden house. The choice of this or that model depends on the type of room:

  • It is actual to mount blind doors in the bedroom in order to create a secluded, intimate atmosphere in the room. Canvases with good sound insulation are recommended.
  • For the living room, you can choose any product, the decorative characteristics of which correspond to the interior style of the room. For a wide opening, double-leaf canvases are perfect.
  • Doors must be installed in the kitchen opening, odorless, resistant to temperature changes and humidity. Models with glass inserts will be in harmony with tiles and chrome surfaces.
  • The space of the children's room is limited by doors made of natural, environmentally friendly materials without glass and locks, with comfortable rounded handles.
  • It is recommended to install moisture-proof interior doors with noise insulation in the bathroom. It is better to give preference to deaf options.

Some owners of wooden houses additionally install doors in the corridor, behind which a solid entrance structure with good thermal insulation properties is installed. Thanks to this, you can hide shoe shelves, hangers with outerwear behind the door and protect the interior from the cold in winter.

Interior doors can have various shapes that follow the geometry of the doorway. In a wooden house, not only rectangular, but also arched models will look beautiful.

Types of structures by the way of opening

The following interior doors are distinguished by the type of opening:

  • Swinging- canvases open in one direction, for their installation there must be free space.

  • Sliding- move along the lower or upper guide rail along the wall, it is convenient to place if there is no room for opening.

  • Folding accordion type- consists of several clothed sections, allow you to save free space.

The main stages of installation

The frame of a house made of wood will shrink 0.8-1.3% over time if well-dried wood was used for the construction. The damp forest will settle even more, so the installation of door structures is done in one or two years. To avoid deformation of the web and skewing of the opening, installation must be performed using a casing or casing, regardless of the door material.

To do the work with your own hands, you need to stock up on all the necessary tools and fasteners. The master will need: a hammer, nails (screws, self-tapping screws), a hacksaw, a tape measure, a square, a plumb line, drills, a level, a knife, an electric drill, a spatula, wort.

How to put the door in a wooden house correctly:

1. The first step is to prepare the opening. In size, it should be slightly larger than the door structure - by 50-70 mm on the sides, the upper gap should be 150 mm.

2. At the ends of the finished opening with a chainsaw or a milling cutter, grooves 50 mm wide and deep are cut along the entire length of the sidewalls.

3. Bars with a cross section of 50x50 mm are hammered into the prepared grooves, their length should be 50 mm shorter than the grooves (for a fresh log house) or 20 mm (for an already well-set frame at home).

4. A board is packed to the already installed lower bar, which will form the threshold, and then boards on the sides and top.

5. Insulation is placed in the upper and side gaps between the opening and the casing. Next, the door frame is installed. The gap between it and the casing must be filled with polyurethane foam.

6. On the door, measure and mark the places to put the hinges - at a distance of 20-25 cm from the edge above and below. The door leaf is installed, marks are made on the box at the hinge attachment points.

7. Make sockets for fastening the hinges - a groove with a depth of no more than 3 mm, install the hinges on self-tapping screws, fasten the door leaf.

Additional recommendations

Having decided to independently install interior doors in a wooden house, a number of additional recommendations should be taken into account:

  • When installing, use a plumb line to correctly check the verticality of the casing posts and the door frame.
  • All voids between the casing box and the opening are filled with insulation and polyurethane foam.
  • When installing the entrance door, place a seal around the perimeter of the frame.
  • The leaf in the door frame must be of sufficient thickness to provide sound insulation.
  • For reliability, it is better to install the door on three or four hinges, check the quality of the fittings before purchasing.
  • If a lock is provided in the door structure, it is placed at a height of 700-1200 mm (distance from the floor).
